Chai Sarah
“[My mother] became a warrior far superior to any epic hero. She became a giant on her knees. With a sword in one hand, she battled the enemies of death and disease, and with her other hand stretched toward heaven, she kept beseeching God’s help and His mercy.” ~Bishop T.D. Jakes
Avinu Malkeinu,
You know how hard it is for me to pray this prayer about being a woman, a wife, and a mother, so please be close to me as I write it. Sarah was a matriarch without comparison. As the Holy Spirit is to the Holy One, Sarah was to Abraham. Proverbs 14:1 expresses that a wise woman builds, establishes, or causes her house to continue. Please help us to embody Sarah’s wisdom. In the beginning, the Divine Breath hovered over the waters and produced life. May we hover over, or be the coverings of love in our homes, causing life to thrive. Please help us build our dwellings with wisdom, understanding, counsel, truth, power, and knowledge, while teaching our children how to fear the Holy One.
In times when our partners try to lead us down paths we disagree with, may we trust You completely so we can support them with faith and strength. Give us discernment in our home environment to guard our space from negativity and division, and help our partners be humble enough to hear us. As Sarah’s name suggests, she was a righteous ruler. Strengthen us to rule righteously in our homes. May we give birth to laughter in our homes, like Sarah, allowing your joy to be our shelter, harbor, and safe place in the storms of life. Open our eyes so we can understand the profound influence we hold over those around us. Help us feel empowered to use that influence to draw others closer to You.
Sarah’s faithfulness helped Abraham to walk faithfully.
Sarah’s counsel helped Abraham guide his family.
Sarah’s humility helped Abraham learn to lead.
Sarah’s wisdom built a house that her son Isaac inherited and filled with love. Give us wisdom to build a spiritual dwelling that our children inherit and continue to fill with your Presence for generations to come.
May we walk in the footsteps of this matriarch, learn from her, and embody the same abandoned trust in You that she had.
Love,
Brianna
